The Challenge

Santa Monica Place mall had fallen on hard times. The property was outdated and outpaced by newer developments. As a result, many of its tenants were dropping out. Macerich, the development’s owner, desired to give the property—and brand—a facelift.


Strategy & Approach

Through our research, we determined the name for the mall still worked. However, the brand needed a refresh. Our process involved multiple concepts with iterations and refinement. The finished brand was then translated through all marketing collateral to include an overall B2B strategy with website, investor gift items, brochure items, computer renderings, animation, and signage.


Final Experience

Once the materials were in the hands of the brokerage community, interest piqued, and it wasn’t long before retail space in the mall was fully leased. Today, Santa Monica Place is a major destination for shoppers, retailers and the tourist community in and around LA.
